The final quarter-final battle of Euro 2024 sees the Netherlands take on Türkiye on Saturday evening. It is no great surprise to see the Dutch at this stage, as they were strong favourites to see off the challenge of Romania in the previous round.

It is something of a surprise to see Türkiye here though as they faced a quite formidable Austria team last time out. In what was one of the games of the tournament, the Turks managed to resist the Austrian pressure and edge out a thrilling contest that left both sets of players shattered, 2-1. Spurred on by this very encouraging win, Vincenzo Montella’s young side will have no fear coming into this one.

This is a quarter-final clash, and both nations will believe they can win, but who will book their place in the semi-finals to face the winner of England vs. Switzerland?

  • Location: Berlin
  • Stadium: Olympiastadion
  • Date: 6 July 2024?
  • Kick-off Time: 21:00 CEST (20:00 BST)
  • Referee: Clément Turpin (France)
  • VAR: Jér?me Brisard (France)

No news is good news for Dutch boss Ronald Koeman, who has no injured or suspended players for this match. His men ended up unscathed from their 3-0 win over Romania, so sticking with the same starting lineup is an option. You have to expect, though, that Donyell Malen will replace Steven Bergwijn on the wing following his two-goal haul from the bench.

The quartet of Dumfries, Malen, Schouten, and Veerman are all one yellow card away from a suspension, but this is unlikely to have any impact on Koeman’s selections.

Türkiye had two players suspended for their round-of-16 clash with Austria, captain Hakan ?alhano?lu and defender Samet Akaydin. Having them back here is a huge boost, given they started in all of Türkiye’s group stage clashes. The two returning players are, however, replaced by a freshly suspended pair in the form of ?smail Yüksek and Orkun K?k?ü. These are both notable absentees, as they have almost 400 minutes between them at this tournament, but the Turks have shown they have very capable reserves.

Netherlands vs Türkiye H2H Record and Key Numbers

Türkiye will not be too alarmed that they fell to a 6-1 defeat to the Netherlands during their most recent encounter. Amazingly they lost by this exact scoreline the last time they faced Austria too but this did not stop the Crescent-Stars from eliminating the Austrians from Euro 2024 earlier in the week.

Overall these two nations have a fairly even head-to-head record reading Netherlands 6 wins, Türkiye 4 wins and 4 draws. They also have the same scoring record at Euro 2024, having found the net seven times each so far. The Turkish defence has been more vulnerable though, having already shipped in six goals with an xGA of 7.94 (vs. Netherlands on 3.84).

Possible Lineups

  • Netherlands (4-3-3): Verbruggen – Dumfries, De Vrij, Van Dijk, Aké – Schouten, Simons, Reijnders – Malen, Depay, Gakpo
  • Türkiye (4-2-3-1): Günok – Müldür, Demiral, Bardakc?, Kad?o?lu – Yoku?lu, Ayhan – Y?ld?z, ?alhano?lu, Y?lmaz – Arda Güler

Where to Watch Netherlands vs Türkiye Euro 2024 – TV and Online Live Streaming

Prediction

This quarter-final clash could feasibly go either way but I am backing the Dutch to progress to the next round. Although you have to credit Turkyie for their win over Austria, it did come with a huge slice of good fortune and a massive expenditure of energy. The Dutch, meanwhile, barely gave Romania a sniff during their fairly comfortable 3-0 win and their superior defence is what should give them the edge in this contest.
