What a finale to Group E we have on our hands. With one round of fixtures left to play, all four teams could still finish in any position within the group. There are too many permutations to describe in this introduction, but we can provide you with a basic overview. The winner of this match between Slovakia and Romania will qualify in one of the top two places; that much is guaranteed.

In the event of a draw, Romania are still assured of a top-two finish. Slovakia, on the other hand, will finish third and go through as one of the best third-place teams. With a draw being a decent result for both teams, you may think the pair might settle for this. Players from both nations, however, have stated to the press that they are desperate to secure three points in this match.

Slovakia have named the same starting eleven for both Group E matches so far but this may not be possible for this game. Last time out, against Ukraine, Dávid Hancko pulled up with a groin injury. He attempted to soldier on with some strapping but it was abundantly clear he could not continue and came off a couple of minutes later. Due to how uncomfortable the left-back appeared, it would be a surprise if he’s shaken off the problem in time for this match.

Losing the Feyenoord man would be a big loss, but he looks like the only absentee in Slovakia.

Romania Team News

Romania has enjoyed a relatively injury-free Euro 2024 so far. Denis Alibec was not quite fit for his nation’s opening match but enjoyed a run out in the defeat to Belgium. Other than this, there have been no reported issues within the Romanian camp. This will enable manager Edi Iord?nescu to name an unchanged side from the one that took on the Red Devils. Three players are one yellow card from a one-game suspension, but Bancu and the two Marins (no relation) are too important to leave out.

Slovakia vs Romania H2H Record and Key Numbers

Slovakia are searching for their first win against Romania since 1942. They will surely not complain too much with a draw, though, a result they have achieved on three of the last four occasions against the Tricolorii.

Despite losing to Ukraine last time out, Slovakia still have impressive form coming into this one. Across their last nine matches, they have registered six wins and just two defeats. Romania do not have such a high recent winning percentage but they have become an extremely tough side to beat. The recent 2-0 loss to Belgium was only their second defeat since November 2022.

Possible Lineups

  • Slovakia (4-3-3): Dúbravka – Pekarík, Vavro, ?kriniar, De Marco – Kucka, Lobotka, Duda – Schranz, Bo?eník, Haraslín
  • Romania (4-1-4-1): Ni?? – Ra?iu, Dr?gu?in, Burc?, Bancu – M. Marin – Man, R. Marin, Stanciu, Mih?il? – Dr?gu?

Where to Watch Slovakia vs Romania Euro 2024 – TV and Online Live Streaming

The match will be broadcast on TV Markíza in Slovakia and Pro TV in Romania. If watching from the UK, you will need to tune into BBC Two or BBC iPlayer.

Prediction

I do not expect both teams to intentionally settle for a draw but it still seems the most likely outcome for this clash. There is not a great deal to separate the two on paper and Romania are magnets for a tied game. Across the Tricolorii’s last fourteen matches, seven have ended all square. Both teams have so much more to lose than gain by being brave and committing men forward so I expect this to be a nervy low-scoring draw.
